5 Reasons to Read Hate to Want You by Alisha Rai

Do you want to know one of my favorite romance reads this year? Hands down, Hate to Want You is sitting at the top. It’s the Avon Books debut novel of Alisha Rai. It’s also the first book in the Forbidden Heart series. The story follows Livvy Kane and Nicholas Chandler, who were once childhood lovers, but are now torn-apart because of their feuding families.

If you haven’t got the time to pick it up, Hollywood News Source has listed five of the reasons why we love it:

1. it’s the modern adaptation of romeo and juliet

This is not the official blurb of Hate to Want You; however, everyone that has read this book would agree that it has the same vein as Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Although, there’s a modern twist to it. The main characters Livvy and Nicholas end happily together. Of course, it wouldn’t be a romance if it’s a tragedy. That’s a hardly a spoiler! What makes it Romeo and Juliet esque? Well, they both come from affluent families that despised each other.

2. legendary hook-ups

Because of a tragedy that tore Livvy and Nicholas apart, they were “forced” by the circumstances to break up. That resulted in a one-night-stand hookup once a year that spanned a decade. You can expect angst and well-written sex scenes.

3. several romance tropes done well

There’s several tropes employed, which are childhood friends to lovers, forbidden romance, enemies to lovers with a second-chance finishing touch. These are my favorite tropes, I couldn’t help but to embrace the pairing. There’s so much tension. I love it.

4. family dynamics

The heart of the story is the history between Livvy and Nicholas. Their clan is heavily intertwined, the book explores the complicated family dynamics between their loved ones. You’ll root for the characters and get emotional with their bonding.

5. the heroine has depression

I didn’t foresee that Hate to Want You would be a raw read. I’d like to warn other readers so they’ll know what to expect. I personally find it relatable.

About the Book

One night. No one will know.

That was the deal. Every year, Livvy Kane and Nicholas Chandler would share one perfect night of illicit pleasure. The forbidden hours let them forget the tragedy that haunted their pasts-and the last names that made them enemies.

Until the night she didn’t show up.

Now Nicholas has an empire to run. He doesn’t have time for distractions and Livvy’s sudden reappearance in town is a major distraction. She’s the one woman he shouldn’t want…so why can’t he forget how right she feels in his bed?

Livvy didn’t come home for Nicholas, but fate seems determined to remind her of his presence–and their past. Although the passion between them might have once run hot and deep, not even love can overcome the scandal that divided their families.

Being together might be against all the rules…but being apart is impossible.
