The CW are taking a serious look at a Batwoman TV show with Caroline Dries (The Vampire Diaries) and Greg Berlanti (Arrowverse).
Caroline Dries served as executive producer on The Vampire Diaries and is set for writing duties on Batwoman. Check out the synopsis for the show below:
Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.
Batwoman was the first ever lesbian DC character to lead a DC title after her reintroduction to the DC universe in 2006. If the show goes ahead with a suggested 2019 debut then it would be the first live action superhero show with a gay or lesbian lead.
The character of Batwoman is set to be seen first during the DC Arrowverse cross over event that has been a staple of the network for the last few seasons. The casting is currently underway for that project and the chosen actress will also go on to appear in the Batwoman Pilot.
