Elizabeth Banks plans to star in a new move titled “Queen for a Day,” which will center around a publicity stunt with the late rock star, Prince. Back in 1986, when MTV played music and such, they worked with Warner Bros. to sponsor a contest designed to bring attention to Prince’s new album, Under the Cherry Moon.
The idea was simple: Be the 10,000 caller during the contest period and you would win a date with the rock star. But wait, there’s more. The “date” would actually be a premiere of Prince’s movie in the winner’s hometown followed by a concert headlined by Prince and the Revolution. As you can imagine, this was a BIG deal. The winner was Lisa Barber of Sheridan, Wyoming. She was a young lady who cleaned hotel rooms and was a big fan of Motley Crue. The movie will focus on how this big event changed the life of Barber, the PA Exec who devised the contest and the town of Sheridan. Because the movie does not focus on him, per se, Prince will not be played by anyone in the movie, he will just be a presence throughout the film. No news on when filming will begin.
