Jack O’Connell Will Play Alexander McQueen In New Biopic

Legendary fashion designer Alexander McQueen is set to be portrayed by Jack O’Connell.

Fashion designer McQueen’s life saw a spectacular rise and fall. Born a working class son of a Scottish taxi driver in Lewisham, London, he went on to rise rapidly from an apprentice on London’s famous Savile Row. He is known for having worked as chief designer at fashion house Givenchy and for founding his own Alexander McQueen label. He won four British Designer of the Year awards and his famous clients ranged from Prince Charles to Mikhael Gorbachev to David Bowie. Openly gay, his growing fortune and fame led to an increase in drug dependence. He committed suicide in 2010, nine days after his mother died of cancer.

Andrew Haigh will step into the directors chair for the as yet untitled film. O’Connell is going from strength to strength with a number of high profile roles in recent films including Starred Up and Money Monster.
