Freeform has set the cast for their “Cosmopolitan” inspired pilot “Issues.”
Katie Stevens, who stars in MTV’s “Faking It,” and “Transparent’s” Melora Hardin will topline the pilot, along with Sam Page (“House of Cards,” “Desperate Housewives”), Aisha Dee (“Chasing Life”), Meghann Fahy (“Political Animals”) and Matt Ward (“Remedy”).
Stevens will star as Jane, who has just been promoted to her dream job as a writer for Scarlet Magazine. Dee will play Kat, another Scarlet Magazine employee, who was just promoted to social media director. Fahy rounds out the trio as Sutton, the last of her friends to be an assistant at Scarlet, who is keeping a secret from her friends.
The three friends all work for Scarlet’s editor in chief Jacqueline, played by Hardin. Described as quietly tough and confident, she can intimidate without saying a word, but she also has a strong nurturing side and encourages Jane to find her voice as a writer.
Page stars as Richard, the lawyer for the publishing group, and Ward will play Alex, a fellow writer at Scarlet who is smitten with Jane and joined the magazine as a last resort after losing a dream job.
The pilot is currently in production in Toronto.
“Issues” is inspired by the life of “Cosmopolitan” editor in chief, Joanna Coles. The show is a glimpse into the outrageous lives and loves of those responsible for a global women’s magazine. Their struggles are about finding your identity, managing friendships and getting your heart broken, all while wearing the perfect jeans to flatter any body type.
