Lionsgate has changed the release dates for “The Divergent Series: Ascendant” and “Power Rangers.”
Lionsgate announced today that its reboot of Power Rangers will now open on March 24, 2017, a calendar slot originally occupied by The Divergent Series: Ascendant, the final film in the feature adaptation of the Veronica Roth YA series. That takes Power Rangers out of the January 13 Martin Luther King Jr. weekend –the end of the holiday movie-going season– and into a period where kids will be off on spring break.
Meanwhile, Ascendant heads to June 9, 2017, so that it can capitalize on summer turnstiles. The Robert Schwentke-directed sequel will go head-to-head with Paramount’s Brad Pitt zombie sequel World War Z 2.
