“Mindhunter” Season 2 Trailer Released

Its been almost two years since the debut of the Netflix show, “Mindhunter,” and for the show’s fans those two years have been long and steeped in anticipation.  But the wait is almost over as the show will return August 16th!  And to make sure you are counting down the days, this brilliant trailer was released giving us the merest glimpse into what is sure to be a wild Season 2.

The series stars Jonathon Groff as FBI agent Holden Ford and Holt McCallany as agent Bill Tench.  As investigators they are intent on conducting interview-based behavioral research to better understand the psychology of those committing heinous crimes.  It is their belief that increased understanding of the why’s behind these crimes will aid in solving the crimes more quickly and with greater accuracy.  What may seem obvious and common practice (and certainly what we are used to seeing in crime shows such as “Criminal Minds”) today was groundbreaking in the 1970’s, when the notion of forensic psychology was first being explored. The series is based on the book, Mindhunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit, by John E. Douglas and Mark Olshake, describes how this new methodology was developed and is the basis of the series.

Season 2 will focus on the Atlanta child murders that occurred in the late 70’s, early ’80’s.  But as you saw in the trailer, that is not the only killer we will meet. It will be interesting to see if the new season picks up where season one left off (no spoilers!) and how the characters of Ford and Tench recover from that and get involved in the Atlanta child murders.  The new season is reportedly eight episodes which is a bit shorter than Season 1’s 10 episodes, but I am not complaining.  In fact I’m ready to start picketing for Season 3.
