Let’s break down this week’s new home releases Widows, The Girl In The Spider’s Web and The Deuce Season 2.
Widows stars Viola Davis, Michelle Rodriguez, Cynthia Erivo and Elizabeth Debicki and was directed by Steve McQueen.
Set in contemporary Chicago, amid a time of turmoil, four women with nothing in common except a debt left behind by their dead husbands’ criminal activities, take fate into their own hands, and conspire to forge a future on their own terms.
The Girl In The Spider’s Web
The Girl In The Spider’s Web stars Claire Foy, Sverrir Gudnasson and Lakeith Stanfield. The film is directed by Fede Alvarez.
Journalist Mikael Blomkvist and computer hacker Lisbeth Salander meet again in Sweden. Blomkvist is investigating a Swedish computer scientist named Frans Balder. The tech genius suddenly leaves his prestigious job in Silicon Valley to protect his son, who is autistic. He is being watched by The Spider Society, an international criminal collective bent on using Balder’s son to get to him. In the course of the investigation, Mikael Blomqvis discovers that Mr. Balder was involved in some previous activity with Ms. Salander.
The Deuce Season 2
Season 2 of 70s period drama series The Deuce is now available. The series stars James Franco, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Gbenga Akinnagbe.
In the 1970’s, the prostitution business enjoyed a public boom never before seen in the five boroughs until the police began to increase arrests in a push against corruption. Two brothers, identical twins Vincent and Frankie Martino, work out of Times Square and provide a front for the Mafia. Street walker Eileen Merrell, known in the business as “Candy,” keeps dealing with threats from pimps, johns and cops. Violence also starts to grow as a drug epidemic start sweeps through the city. As all of these events unfold, each character tries to find less dangerous money-making schemes through legal pornography.
