Are your tissues ready? Once Upon a Time is ending after season 7.
The magic is over for “Once Upon a Time.”
The ABC series, which is currently in its seventh season, will end its (fairy tale) storied run with the current season, Variety has learned.
Although ABC entertainment president Channing Dungey said she was “cautiously optimistic” about bringing the show back for an eighth season, when asked about the show’s fate at the Television Critics Assn. press tour last month, the network ultimately decided to pull the plug on the franchise. The show returns for the second half of its final season on March 2, and the finale will air in May, after well over 150 episodes.
“When we first heard Adam and Eddy’s pitch for ‘Once Upon a Time,’ we knew it was something incredibly special. For seven years, they have captivated us with their creativity and passion while reimagining some of our most beloved Disney fairytales, creating an undeniable global hit,” said Dungey in a statement. “Saying goodbye will be bittersweet, but ‘Once Upon a Time’ will forever be part of the ABC legacy, and we can’t wait for fans to join us in this epic final chapter.”
