The CW cancels ‘Life Sentence’

Life Sentence has been canceled by The CW!

The CW has opted not to renew its new midseason dramedy Life Sentence for a second season. Star Lucy Hale just shared the news with her fans on Twitter.

The cancellation was foreshadowed by the CW’s decision last month to send the series from Wednesday to Friday. While Life Sentence had done OK in delayed viewing and on-demand — largely because of the following Pretty Little Liars alumna Hale has among young viewers — it had struggled mightily in linear ratings, hitting a dismal 0.1 Live+same day in 18-49 before its Friday move. The show stayed at the 0.1 demo level in its outings on the new night.

“I was emotionally attached to this story and to everyone involved so I’m a little shell shocked right now, but I feel fortunate that we got to tell a beautiful story,” Hale wrote. “Sometimes things don’t resonate with the audience, and shows just don’t work but I’m so proud of what we accomplished & for the experience I had. Life Sentence was a show that a lot of us needed, and I am beyond grateful for those who gave our show a chance.”
