The Good Doctor has been picked up for a full season by ABC.
The decision has come very early with only two episodes of the show having aired so far, though it comes after CBS’ decision to give a full order to their spinoff comedy series Young Sheldon.
The series which comes from David Shore (House) and Daniel Dae Kim has been doing incredibly well. The first episode earned a 2.2 adults 18-49 rating and 11.22 million viewers on the night and then went on to gain 5.5 million viewers in the Live+3 ratings.. The second episode experienced no drop off in numbers which is nearly unprecedented.
President of ABC Entertainment Channing Dungey released the following statement:
“We are thrilled to announce that we are giving our viewers additional episodes of The Good Doctor. We have an amazing team in front of and behind the camera, led by Freddie Highmore’s incredibly nuanced performance as Dr. Shaun Murphy, and we’re confident the show will continue to captivate our audience.”
The Good Doctor stars Highmore as a young surgeon with Savant syndrome recruited into the pediatric surgical unit of a prestigious hospital. Richard Schiff, Antonia Thomas, Nicholas Gonzalez, Chuku Modu, Hill Harper and Beau Garrett co-star.
