Wynonna Earp will return with production set to begin later this year according to IDW Entertainment.
The issue of whether the show would ever return was in the air since it failed to start shooting as scheduled amid its parent company IDW Holdings experiencing financial losses. At least some of those financial woes have now been offset with Cineflix Studios joining to co-produce season four and Cineflix Rights set to handle international sales. Syfy has also stepped in and agreed to pay a higher license fee than the one they previously negotiated.
Lydia Antonini, President, IDW Entertainment released the following statement:
“Wynonna Earp – the series, the comics, the characters, the story and the fans are all deeply important to IDW so we are thrilled to be able to continue to tell the Wynonna story. From the very beginning, the fans have embraced the series and have transformed their passion into an inclusive community built upon empathy and support, as well as whiskey and donuts. We are grateful to have partners who were able to help us bring it back for a fourth season so that we can continue to serve the dedicated Earpers, and entertain fans everywhere”
The popularity and appeal of Wynonna Earp are hard to quantify but the show has already spawned several fan conventions in the US, Canada and UK and the fandom has an impressive track record of promoting the show themselves and good works such as raising money for various charities.
The new production schedule means that Wynonna Earp will now air in Summer 2020.
